We size chimneys by the opening at the bottom, not by height. Wicks go by width. Get either wrong and the part will not sit, however close the rest of the dimensions look.
Take the old chimney off and measure straight across the opening at its base, inside edge to inside edge. That number, 2-5/8 in or 3 in across our range, decides the fit. Height on its own tells you nothing: our 411B and 417B sit three quarters of an inch apart in height and still will not swap.
For wicks, measure the flat width of the old one, or the slot in the burner it feeds through. Both of ours are 8 in long, so length is not the variable.
| Lamp | Fuel | Burn time | Chimney | Wick |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chamber Oil Lamp 110 | 11.8 oz | up to 20 hours | 411B | 5/8 in |
| Farmer's Lantern 52664 | not published | not published | not published | 5/8 in |
| Ellise Oil Lamp | 19.5 oz | up to 28 hours | 417B | 3/4 in |
Where a cell says "not published", we have never put that figure on the spec sheet, and we are not going to invent one now. The Farmer's Lantern is the case in point: it ships as a sealed hurricane lantern and the capacity is nowhere in our paperwork. Its wick is the standard 5/8 in.
| Model | Base opening | Height | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| 417B | 3 in | 8.5 in | Flaretop |
| 411B | 2-5/8 in | 7.75 in | Straight |
Order the 417B for anything we describe as a large or flaretop lamp, the Ellise included. The 411B goes on chamber lamps such as our 110.
| Wick | Width | Length | Pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat Cotton Wick 99963, 3/4 in | 3/4 in | 8 in | 3 wicks |
| Flat Cotton Wick, 5/8 in | 5/8 in | 8 in | 3 wicks |
Our brass burner 31507 takes the 3/4 in wick and fits lamp bases up to 3 in across. Replacing a burner and a wick at the same time? Order them as a pair rather than guessing the width afterwards.
Any of our clear paraffin oils works in any of our lamps. The only question is quantity: 32 oz for a lamp that comes out during storms, 64 or 100 oz for one that gets lit most weeks.
Plenty of hurricane lamps sold in the US are not ours and carry no model number at all. If your chimney base measures something other than 2-5/8 or 3 in, it came from another maker and nothing we sell will fit it. Measure first, then search by the dimension rather than by brand.
